Historical wanderings in Clausonne Abbey

Let's discover the Clausonne Abbey, a former hamlet situated at 1140 meters of altitude! You will take part to the valorization project of a place that is classified as a Historical Monument. Today, only the remnants of this 12th century building are found as the abbey was destroyed, burnt, rebuilt and finally used as a farm and school in the 19th century. Clausonne remains, however, a remarkable site, sharing the beauty of the wilderness that surrounds it: situated in the heart of a vast «circus» of mountains, the abbey became the route point for numerous hikers that visit the Haute vallée of Maraize.

Tracing the steps of the duke of Lesdiguières

At the foot of the Massif du Dévoluy, in the Hautes-Alpes, stand the remains of the castle of Lesdiguières, located at the entrance of a hamlet of the same name, in the district of Glaizil. This castle was built in the 16th century by François de Bonne, the future duke of Lesdiguières and the last constable of France. Today, only the ruins of the old chapel, the towers, and broken down sections of the walls can be found at the site of this once-grand castle, ranked as a French national historic monument.

Cabannes is a village near Avignon and the Alpilles Park. The chapel St Michel is the oldest building of the town dating from the 12th century with an extension of the 17th. By participating in this project, you will contribute to the restoration of the Provencal heritage, you will discover both artisanal restoration techniques and regional specialties.

Barbentane, picturesque Provencal village with its many listed monuments. The crypt is located in a beautiful park shaded by cedars more than a century old and filled with all the essences of the Mediterranean forest. It served as a tomb to the family of Andigné, descendants of Marquis Robin de Barbentane.

Located in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, the association “Les Villages des Jeunes”, www.villagesjeunes.org, manages, runs and renovates a hosting centre at Vaunières since 1964! It is an old mountain hamlet that has become both a “trampoline” for youth and adults facing hardships, and a welcoming place for French and international volunteers. Vaunières is a vacation destination for families, tourists and people with disabilities who come to enjoy the calmness of the mountain and the place’s dynamic atmosphere.

This year, the workcamp will consist of renovating, maintaining and developing different parts of the Fort in order to enhance the site.

Participate in the promotion of the historical heritage of Collobrières, Provencal village "capital of the chestnut" in the heart of Provence. The town called on an architect to propose a project enhancing the exterior of the St Pons’ Church to make scents and educational gardens. The project will consist in supporting the municipality and local associations in the implementation of this project.

Development of the mining site and its valorisation at the patrimonial level. This site includes a technical part of underground excavations and an environment and prevention part outside. Hung on the banks of the torrent of Fournel, the mining establishment was built in the XIXth century for the exploitation of a deposit of argentiferous lead which was the object of a prosperous exploitation already in the Middle Ages. Since 1992, the site is the object of archaeological excavations and workcamps to rehabilitate and value these industrial heritage.

Meyrargues, picturesque Provencal village with its castle listed as historical heritage. The town is located north of Aix en Provence, on the site of the great site of Sainte Victoire painted by Cezanne.
The project involves a pathway between the village and the castle to facilitate access to residents and tourists who come to visit the town.

You will participate in the restauration of a site that represents an example of remarkably well conserved historical and geological heritage, and is one of the most important mines in the Alps. The Vallauria mine was exploited for its galena (silver-bearing lead), and blend (zinc based mineral) from the Middle Ages until 1930.

A Roof for the merveilles

You will be participating in renovating the roofing of a building, and improving its energy performance (isolating the roof, double glazing windows, wood heating). This building serves mainly as an area where children taking part in school trips are welcomed. It is made up of classrooms, a library, and offices.

Underneath the Castle of Arzeliers

Located at the doors of the provecial Baronnies, the site of Arzeliers opens onto a small mountain where one can enjoy a wonderful view of the Durance Valley. This old village in ruins is the birthplace of the Laragne community, where one can still find the remains of a chapel and houses. After many years, the community of Laragne has mobilized itself to revive, maintain, and enhance the remains of the castle of Arzeliers, which is a witness to the rich past of its districts. Since 2013, three international workcamps of young volunteers were organized by the associations of « Les Villages des Jeunes » and « Les amis de l'abbaye de Clausonne » to carry out the community's goals. Stregthened by it's past achievments, the association has offered to oversee the safeguarding work in 2017.
